kmapper specializes in the digitalization and visualization of data: from architecture to prototyping to development and implementation. Their projects aim to structure content and data in the best way for humans and machines alike.

kmapper was founded based on an open project with the same name. kmapper.org is an online tool that visualizes interdisciplinary knowledge interrelations. It takes a term or even a phrase and compares it to the content of a scientific open source databank, extracting those papers that feature the same term or phrase. The results are displayed according to their relevance and field of knowledge. That’s super useful if you’re researching a specific topic.

The tool was developed by Cyrill Martin who’s responsible for information design at Karlie. As a free tool based on open source technology kmapper.org is his personal contribution to tackling complex real-world problems with interdisciplinary research and an open knowledge landscape.

How the results are displayed: the number in the circle indicates the number of papers found. The position on the raster shows the level of relevance: the more relevant publications are placed closer to the center.
